Judicial Service Commission

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is the established body with the power, subject to the Constitution of Nigeria and notwithstanding the provisions of any other law to appoint, promote, dismiss and excercise disciplinary control over the Chief Registrar of the High Court of the State, Chief Registrar of the Sharia Court of Appeal of the State, Magistrates, Judges, members of area/sharia courts and all staff of Judiciary and to determine their terms and conditions of service as to remuneration or otherwise.

The Commission shall consist of the following members:

  • The Chief Judge who shall be the Chairman
  • The Attorney-General of the State
  • The Grand Kadi
  • One person who is a legal practioner and who has been so qualified to practice as a legal practitioner in Nigeria for not less than ten years
  • One person not being a legal practitioner, who in the opinion of the Governor is of unquestionable integrity
